Storage Tips

Here are some tips to help you enjoy your storage experience:

  1. Plan your space. Place those items you don’t need to get to often at the back of your storage unit and thoseself-storage-closet you will need more frequently at the front of the unit.
  2. Place a sheet of plastic film on floor.
  3. When using boxes, completely fill each box (this will help prevent crushing of boxes by other boxes piled above.)
  4. Try to stack like-sized boxes to maximize space and aid stability of the stack.
  5. Place heaviest boxes on bottom, lighter boxes on top.
  6. Label all boxes on the SIDE for easy identification.
  7. Remove legs from tables with removable legs–it’ll save a lot of space.
  8. Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save space.
  9. The best dust covers are sheets or towels. If you use plastic sheeting, perforate it to allow moisture to escape.
  10. Use plain newsprint paper to wrap items, not newspapers (newspaper ink will come off on your possessions). Plain newsprint is available at most moving companies.
  11. Make a list of the contents of your unit, perhaps even recording the general location within the unit. Keep the list in a safe place where it’s easy to find.
  12. Do not store gasoline, paint thinner, paint or any other hazardous materials.
  13. Do not store liquids–they could freeze.
